Loke House Visitor Book

Here are some of the comments that our guests have made in Loke House's visitor book...

"A lovely, lovely cottage. There are so many details that compel you to look and enjoy and yet the place is also so practical. You have clearly brought a lifetime of family living experience in putting this place together. Your home, yet so very inviting. Thanks, we felt totally at home too."

"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, I love the nautical look! The food from the deli and the Three Swallows was delicious. Looking forward to returning! Thank you for sharing your home with us. Thanks also to Jill, she made us feel very welcome."

"Thank you for a lovely stay. We all enjoyed the steam train from Holt to Sheringham. The beaches at Brancaster and Holkham were excellent. The Victoria at Holkham provided us with an excellent lunch. Thanks again."

"Lovely cottage, we had a very relaxing stay, thank you for allowing us to stay. We had a lovely meal at the King’s Head, Letheringsett, and enjoyed the several walks around the village; we hope to come back again soon! Many thanks also to Jill who is always so cheerful!"

"Lovely cottage and surrounding area – food from the deli and smokehouse were delicious. Very peaceful relaxing weekend – just what we wanted – thank you."

"A lovely week again. There’s a visiting black and white kitten this year – very friendly. Rooks are playing games to snatch the biggest chestnut. Pubs: Three Swallows as friendly as ever, and a great place to watch flocks of birds. The George (in the High St) has gone upmarket again (and has broadband access). The beach at Holkham is wonderful – deserted and remote. Wells beach is quirky – worth going to see the amazing architectural variety of beach huts.
Thanks again, Sally and Jil
Btw: if you’re a birdwatcher or an astronomer, visit Cley Spy – best selection of telescopes and binoculars in the UK."

"Really lovely house you have. Despite awful weather we still all had a great holiday. Had a fantastic meal at The Moorings in Blakeney. Highly recommend it. White Horse good for kids. Hope to come again!"

"Last time we came here – we had but one munchkin – this time we were celebrating the birthday of the next one. We had a lovely time – again! Good walking – especially around Cley and Blakeney. Deli in Holt good and worth a visit. Holkham Hall and beach fab! House and garden lovely. Had a good time despite rain – if going to swimming pool in Sheringham (great slide!) go early or you will have to queue outside. Cookies in Salthouse and Cookes in Cley – very good. Cream tea at windmill excellent – if enormous. Shire Horse Centre – expensive – not worth it.
Lovely place to stay."

"Another lovely holiday at Loke House. Glorious weather especially at the start of the week meant we spent most of the time on the beach. Holkham beach lovely but be prepared for a walk. Enjoyed a lovely meal at The George and fish and chips at Salthouse. We promised children we’d return and we did!"

"Lovely house, fantastic weather – sunshine every day. Three Swallows excellent and good red wine from deli."

"We loved the house and the garden. Perfect for our two children and their granny. We hit the rainy season – but managed to visit Holkham beach every day in between the downpours. We also enjoyed wandering around the lokes in Cley and feasting on smoked everything from the Smoke house. Hopefully, we’ll be back."

"Sad to be writing this because it means it’s our last night here. But very glad to have been lucky enough to stay in Loke House. What a lovely, hidden gem of a cottage – we all loved it from the one year old to the “oldies”. Sorry if you find any stray stones inside the house – our toddler is a bit of a collecter at the moment. The weather’s been predictably unpredictable for an early English summer but we’ve had some good times out and about. Highlights include Holkham Beach (more stones! And shells!), a pub meal at the Lord Nelson in Burnham Thorpe (good garden for young ones, interesting Nelson connections), Muckleburgh tank museum (you can drive the tanks too!), fish from Cley Smokehouse, fish and chips from Salthouse, fifty (!) Norfolk beers from Branthill Farm hear Holkham, the pebble beach at sunset….oh and Sophia asked me to give the little rocking horse a special mention. The “Dad Vote” goes to the Three Swallows pub just down the road. Until next time."

"We all had a wonderful time at Loke House! It was very nice to stay in. We went for long walks on the marshes every day. Hope to come back sometime again. Thank you very much for the pleasant stay."

"Had a great time in wonderful surroundings, got the knack of log fire on the last night (cosy). Wish we could stop longer but alas all back to work tomorrow. I’m sure we’ll be here again. Thank you."

"Thick, freezing fog has not dampened our enjoyment of this all-too-brief visit. Walking across the marshes with mournful cries from birds around us, unseen, was very atmospheric! More atmospheric it has to be said, than The George where the food was ok but the lighting harsh. Great though to have the choices. We seem to have created the traditional smell of wood smoke – but more inside the house than out! Very cosy."

A spectacularly lovely week here at Loke House. Weather ranged from great and overcast to crisp and sunny – great, considering the time of year. A raring log fire inside and lots of layers outside saw us rambling and ambling about.
The house is beautiful, cosy and well-stocked. Combined with Picnic Fayre, we got down to some serious cooking.
When not eating here, we particularly recommend the pies at Warham’s Three Horseshoes. Huge and tasty (but watch out – the really are massive). Also the food and the atmosphere at the Red Lion in Stiffkey – jovial landlord, raring fires, good pub grub.
If anyone’s interested in bird-watching we strongly recommend Cley Spy, the shop (bizarrely not in Cley, but Glandford) (signposted from the road to Blakeney) where we bought good binoculars for beginners. They also have a 3 mile farmland walk for bird-watching – pick up a leaflet at Cley Spy and follow the instructions. We saw all sorts, including barn owls.
Normally, we trek all the way out to Blakeney Point to see the seals. But this year, a family turned up in Wells – love those crazy seals!
We’ve stayed in many places in Cley, but Loke House is definitely the best yet. We’ll be back – I think we’ve found our home from home. Thanks for having us!"

"Hi again from Bucks. A perfect week of chilling out after business trips to the US and Europe. Apart from the fab ambiance, we’ve made new discoveries on this visit. Wiveton church is stunning. Plus – you really have to go to the Three Swallows just before sunset to see the migrating flocks of birds. P.S: really appreciate the new books. “North Norfolk” by Quartermain is beautiful and quirky. Just like Cley."

"Despite poor weather, grandparents, parents and children have had a lovely relaxing holiday staying in your beautiful home. Look forward to coming again."

"What a great house. You can tell it’s a lovely family home with a lot of love and thought put into it. We’ve had a wonderful holiday (only wished we’d booked for 2 weeks instead of one). We packed a lot into out short stay (crabbing at Blakeney Quay, The Muckleburgh Collection, Thurston Tractor Engines – fantastic!! Birchill windmill to name a few). Can’t wait to come back."

"We had a brilliant week. Loved the house and the area. The children especially loved the big garden! Thanks."

"Glorious week, weather perfect and cottage lovely. "

"We have had a fabulous week. The weather has been fantastic and the area has so much to offer that we only skimmed the surface. The house was lovely – comfortable and welcoming and a great place to return to each day. The seal trip from Morston is a must, as is the fish merchants at Blakeney. Three Swallows at Cley was good, as was The Moorings at Blakeney – catered well for three kids under five."

"We’ve had a great stay – the house and garden are lovely and we feel very happy to have had our holiday here. We saw barn owls on our walk to the Three Swallows in the evening and a pair of woodpeckers in the garden next door. Alex and Louie like Holkham Bay, the seal trip and the soft play at Cromer. Do go to Nelson’s at Wells and get some proper food!"

"A fabulous visit to Cley-Next-The-Sea with amazing walks around the coast and marshes. Excellent food to be found at the Wiveton Bell, the Blakeney White Horse, The George Hotel and the Three Swallows. A great place to enjoy bird-watching and would love to return in the near future. Many thanks."

"Our stay in Cley in adorable Loke House was absolutely fantastic, thank you so much. Unfortunately I forgot to sign the visitor book but I might come back form Germany and then I'll do it. This very special sort of rural peace and calm of an ancient village is only found in England, I think. The two little flower water colours by Emma are super. have your children seen the "monster" up in the foremost right column in St Margaret's? It has flashy eyes, quite eerie."
